Na Drawing Room 2024, a Galeria Vera Cortês propõe uma apresentação individual de Armanda Duarte, cuja noção de desenho configura uma poética espacial que instiga experiências subtis e íntimas. As instalações despojadas, austeras e delicadas de Armanda resultam da manipulação e composição de objectos do quotidiano através de gestos simples sujeitos a processos quase científicos de repetição e sistematização. Na sua prática, o desenho é um espaço onde o corpo deseja, pensa e atua. O gestual é um plano que estimula a capacidade de estar presente, propondo relações singulares com os espaços físicos, com a memória e a imaginação.

At Drawing Room 2024, Galeria Vera Cortês proposes a solo presentation by Armanda Duarte, whose notion of drawing shapes a spatial poetics which instigates subtle and intimate experiences. Armanda’s stripped down, austere and delicate installations result from the manipulation and composition of everyday objects through simple gestures subjected to almost scientific processes of repetition and systematisation. In her practice, drawing is a space where the body desires, thinks and acts. The gestural is a plane which encourages the ability to be present, proposing singular relations with the physical spaces, with memory and the imagination.

A especificidade do lugar é de tal forma determinante no trabalho de Armanda Duarte que as suas propostas artísticas são realizadas em função da sua observação e análise. A artista observa as características e detalhes de cada contexto para encontrar a essência a partir da qual conduzirá o processo de criação até ao momento de recepção da obra.

Her spatial poetics integrates drawing, sculpture, installation and architecture, provoking subtle and intimate experiences.
 
The specificity of the place is so decisive in Armanda Duarte’s work that her artistic proposals are made based on its observation and analysis. The artist observes the characteristics and details of each context in order to find the essence from which she will conduct the creative process until the moment the work is received.

Armanda produz encenações despojadas, austeras e delicadas, que resultam de ações de manipulação e composição de objetos quotidianos. No seu trabalho, estes objetos e gestos simples são sujeitos a processos repetitivos e sistemáticos, que implicam a conceptualização da ação, a definição de critérios de pesquisa, a normalização de procedimentos de recolha e uma seleção rigorosa.

Armanda produces stripped-down, austere and delicate stagings that are the result of manipulating and composing everyday objects. In her work, these objects and simple gestures are subjected to repetitive and systematic processes, which involve conceptualising the action, defining research criteria, standardising collection procedures and rigorous selection.

Armanda Duarte (1961), estudou na Faculdade de Belas Artes de Lisboa, onde vive e trabalha.
 
O trabalho de Armanda Duarte é site-specific, de tal forma que as suas propostas são efetivamente determinadas pela observação e análise de cada espaço. Observa as caraterísticas e os pormenores de cada contexto em busca da essência que conduzirá o processo de criação até à receção final da obra. As suas poéticas espaciais, que envolvem o desenho, a escultura, a instalação e a arquitetura, provocam experiências subtis e íntimas.

Armanda Duarte (1961), studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts, in Lisbon, where she lives and works.
 
Armanda Duarte’s work is site-specific to such a degree that her proposals are actually determined by her observation and analysis of each given space. She observes the characteristics and details of each context in search of the essence which will lead the process of creation up to the work’s final reception. Her spatial poetics, which involve drawing, sculpture, installation and architecture, provoke subtle and intimate experiences.
